Call on Commissioner Taylor to work with the planning commission to enact new restrictions on mining in Bartow County!
Our community continues to be under attack by rock quarry companies that want to blast near our neighborhoods and businesses. We need to put new rules in place that restrict irresponsible developers from running rampant with NO RULES.
Potential impacts without regulations:
Your Health
Quarry blasting could create dust, noise, and vibrations.
Wildlife & Nature:
Irreparable harm to federally protected species and habitats.
Your Water:
Impact YOUR well water
Could pollute vital water sources, such as Lake Allatoona, Stamp Creek, along with Davis Branch and Guthrie Creek
Your Property:
Home values within a 5-mile radius could drop by 20%, and blasting may cause structural damage.
Proposed Regulations for Responsible Development in Bartow County
No mining activities or related activities can take place within 2,000 feet (measured property line to property line) of a school, church, playground, or daycare facility, or within 2,000 linear feet (measured property line to property line) of a parcel containing a residential structure.
Pre-blast foundation inspections must occur for all residences within one mile of the property line of a property zoned for mining
The applicant must pay for third-party studies on traffic, aquifers/wells, and property values
Bartow County Planning must give appropriate public notice of developments that impact residents:
The Planning Commission must send notification by mail at least 60 days prior to public hearing to all residents and businesses within a 5-mile radius of the proposed site.
The Planning Commission must post notice of all public hearings on social media accounts.
